The Russian foreign policy towards Syria stems from intellectual approaches interpreting that policy in the quest for a new identity and position on the international level. It seeks to achieve the main goal of preserving Russia's influence in the Middle East region and not allowing its role to be marginalized on the global stage amidst international competition. This role has fluctuated, expanding and contracting, depending on the capabilities and capacities of the Russian state. Similarly, the Syrian role has always been significant for Russian interests. Syria has consistently held clear importance for Russian foreign policy makers since the Soviet era. The significance of Syria arises from its position in the Middle East region and its historical connection to Soviet policy. This strategic perspective has led Russian decision-makers to view this region with greater interest due to its impact on Russian interests and its international standing in the context of global geopolitics.
