Chinese Policy Towards the Kurdistan Region of Iraq Since 2014

The year 2014 marked a significant shift in China’s policy towards the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, as it witnessed the opening of a Chinese consulate in Erbil, the capital of the region. This occurred at the height of the war against the terrorist group ISIS. It is important to note that China has a variety of interests that it sought to achieve in its policy towards the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. To accomplish these interests, China employed all available political, economic, humanitarian, and cultural means to safeguard its objectives and strengthen its presence in the region.
