Peer arbitration process

Hammurabi Journal for Studies uses a double-blind peer review process (where the names of the authors are obscured from the reviewers and the names of the reviewers are obscured from the authors). The article is allocated to secret reviewing by specialized reviewers in the field of specialization. Hammurabi Journal for Studies relies mostly on external reviewers in addition to internal reviewers. The review process is done according to the following steps:

1- Call for Review: The Editor-in-Chief sends invitations to individuals who are believed to be suitable reviewers. When responses are received, further invitations are issued, if necessary, until the required number of admissions has been obtained (two decisions acceptable to the reviewers).

2- Response to Invitations: Potential reviewers consider the invitation on the basis of their experience, conflict of interest, and availability,  then they either accept or reject.  Please see the Review  Guidelines section of this site.

3- Review Procedure: the reviewer takes time to read the article several times.  The first reading is used to create a first impression of the article. If significant problems are found at this point, the reviewer may feel comfortable rejecting the article without further reading. Otherwise, they will read the article several times, writing notes to build a detailed review point by point.  The review is then submitted to the journal, with a recommendation of either an acceptance or rejection of the article - or with a request for revision (usually marked as major or minor) before reconsideration.

4- the journal’s evaluation of review: The Editor-in-Chief considers all returned review awards before making a comprehensive decision.  If the reviews differ significantly, the editor may invite an additional reviewer to obtain an additional opinion before making a decision.

5- Basic Decision: The Editor-in-Chief sends a decision email to the author including any relevant review comments.  The name of the reviewer is anonymous for the author(s).

6- Author Submits Revised Article: The author must make the changes requested by the reviewer, and these changes must be highlighted in a shade of red or yellow colour.
